Graduate Studies Department:

The department serves students of post-university education, postgraduate studies (diploma, master's, doctorate). The following are the procedures for enrolling students and registering academics for the various degrees granted by the Faculty for postgraduate studies during the dates specified in accordance with the laws and regulations:

- Issuance of registration certificates and suspension of registration. Degree certificates for postgraduate studies.

- Preparing study schedules, practical groups and teaching plans for all disciplines.

- Preparing observation tables for exams, reviewing results, excuses, enrollment, postponement, and student seating numbers.

- Extracting grades for the courses taught by the student during the stage, including study hours for each course.

- Preparing the agenda of the Graduate Studies Committee and then implementing its decisions after being approved by the Faculty Council.

- Creating a statistical database for students enrolled in the field, registered or graduate students

- Issuing certificates for conferring scientific degrees on postgraduate graduates.

- For international students when they enroll in postgraduate studies at the Faculty, and they must edit the data form indicating the name in conformity with the passport, its academic certificate, and the address inside and outside the country, with an explanation of the opinion of the Faculty, university, and the academic year accredited with three copies of the qualification and the certificate of equivalence approved by the Supreme Council of Universities. Passport, approval to an embassy indicating the entity that finances the study and the academic degree that he wishes to study.

- The department is supervised by Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and it is managed by Prof. / Nasser Fathy, along with the reviewer, Mr. / Abdel Halim Mohamed, responsible for the Ph.D. degree and training teaching assistants, Mr. Amal Ahmed, Masters Responsible, Prof. Sheren Fahmy, for the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry, Prof. Nevin Sabry for the Department of Pharmaceutics, Industrial Pharmacy and Drugs, and Ayat Ali for the Department of Medicines, Toxicology and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and the work of the Postgraduate Studies Committee, and Ms. Iman Ahmed for the departments of microbiology, immunology and biochemistry, and the work of the Postgraduate Studies Committee, for the clinical pharmacy diploma and secretarial work for Ms. Hanan Amin, and writing certificates by Tamer Awad.

Important note

International students may enroll in postgraduate studies at the faculty, and they must submit the following documents:

- The data form is written with all its data in a clear handwriting, and the name is indicated in it, matching the student’s passport, his academic certificate, and the address inside and outside the country, with an explanation of the opinion of the Faculty, the university, and the academic year, approved by their seals, with the number of (3) copies.

- A copy of the qualifications obtained by the student.

- A copy of the equivalency of the certificate obtained by the student from the Supreme Council of Universities.

- A clear and complete copy of the passport.

- A copy of the embassy’s letter indicating the entity that will finance the student’s study and the academic degree he wishes to study in, in accordance with the data form and the academic year.

- (4) copies of the information form showing all data.

Ain Shams University grants, based on the recommendation of the Faculty of Pharmacy Council, a master's degree in pharmaceutical sciences in one of the following majors:

Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Pharmaceutical Technology

Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry

Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Microbiology and Immunology

Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Pharmaceuticals

Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry

Enrollment requirements for a master's degree in pharmaceutical sciences:

The student must have a bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences from a university in the Arab Republic of Egypt, or an equivalent degree, with a general grade of at least “good” and “very good” in the subject or courses of specialization during the years of study.

The student should be working in a research agency that allows him to register and conduct practical research in his workplace

Enrollment and registration for the master's degree takes place in October of each year after presentation to the department council. Enrollment is considered from the date of approval of the Faculty council, and the student must be full-time to study for at least one year.

Conditions for obtaining a master's degree in pharmaceutical sciences:

The student must study no less than 21 (twenty-one) credit hours, distributed as follows:

(12) General Courses: The student studies no less than 9 (nine) prescribed hours from the courses shown in Table No.

Specialized Courses: The student studies no less than 12 (twelve) prescribed hours from among the specialized courses determined by the relevant department and approved by the Faculty Council and shown in tables from No. (13) to No. (22), provided that among them is the course “Selected Courses in the Specialization” It is determined by the relevant department

English course

The student conducts research on a topic approved by the University Council after the approval of the Faculty Council based on the proposal of the Department Council. Also, the Faculty Council, based on the recommendation of the supervisor and after taking the opinion of the relevant Department Council, authorizes the student to carry out some of his research in another scientific institute or another recognized department. with it

The student, after succeeding in the academic courses, submits the results of his research in a thesis accepted by the judging committee and discussed in it publicly. The thesis may not be submitted until at least two years have passed from the date of enrollment, and if the student does not submit his thesis within four years from the date of registration of the subject, the registration is forfeited unless the Faculty Council decided to maintain the registration for another period not exceeding two years, based on the supervisor’s report and after taking the opinion of the concerned department council.

(Important Notes)

Exams in academic courses are held twice a year after the end of each academic semester. In the event that the student fails in any course, the student’s exam will be in the courses in which he failed, excluding the other courses in which he previously succeeded.

The Faculty Council, based on the proposal of the relevant department councils, deprives the student of taking the exam if his attendance rate is less than 75% without an acceptable excuse.

The Faculty Council may suspend the enrollment of the course in which the student is absent for a certain period if he presents an acceptable excuse that prevents him from continuing his research.

Grades of passing in curriculums and general grade

Excellent 85% or more of the total marks

Very good from 75% to less than 85% of the total marks

Good from 65% to less than 75% of the total score

Accept from 60% to less than 65% of the total marks

Fail estimates in courses and general assessment

Weak from 30% to less than 60% of the total score

Very weak, less than 30% of the total score

Approved certificate:

Those who obtain a master's degree in pharmaceutical sciences shall be given an approved certificate indicating the subject of specialization

Ph.D. degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences:

Ain Shams University, based on the recommendation of the Faculty of Pharmacy Council, grants the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Sciences in one of the following disciplines, provided that a bachelor's degree is obtained in pharmaceutical sciences.

Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Sciences in Drugs and Toxicology

Admission requirements for the degree of Ph. D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences:

The student must have a master's degree in pharmaceutical sciences or two diplomas related to the field of specialization, which are then equivalent to a master's degree in pharmaceutical sciences

The student submits an application for enrollment and registration to the Faculty after presenting it to the concerned department council and specifying the subject of the research and the study program. Enrollment is considered from the date of approval of the Faculty council

Conditions for obtaining the degree of Ph. D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences

The student should study at least 12 (twelve) prescribed hours from among the specialized courses determined by the concerned department and approved by the Faculty Council and shown in tables from No. (13) to No. (22). The Faculty Council may add courses within the limits of the prescribed hours and in case of failure A student in any of these courses takes an exam in that which he failed only

The student conducts research on a topic approved by the University Council after the approval of the Faculty Council based on a recommendation from the Department Council, including specifying the subject of the research and the study program. The Faculty Council, based on the recommendation of the supervisor and after taking the opinion of the concerned department council, authorizes the student to carry out some of his research in Another scientific institute or other recognized department

The professor supervising the thesis submits an annual report to the department council on the progress of the research, and the report is submitted to the Faculty council for approval

The concerned department holds a comprehensive test after the completion of studying the courses and at least six months before submitting the thesis

An editorial paper on major topics in the major

An editorial paper on sub-topics related to the specialization

Oral exam

For this purpose, the Faculty Council forms a committee of five specialized professors, at least one of whom is from outside the university, after taking the opinion of the relevant department councils

The student, after succeeding in the specialized courses and the comprehensive test, presents the results of his research in a thesis accepted by the judging committee and discussed in it publicly. This is based on the supervisor’s report and after taking the opinion of the concerned department council.

(Important note)

The Faculty Council may suspend the student’s registration for a certain period if he presents an acceptable excuse that prevents him from continuing his research. The period of suspension is not counted within the periods previously stipulated in Condition No. (3)

Approved Certificate:

Whoever obtains the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Sciences shall be given an approved certificate indicating the subject of specialization, which is the same specialization in which a master’s degree is awarded

The following tables from (12) to (22) show the courses taught to obtain the Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in pharmaceutical sciences, the prescribed hours, lecture hours, and practical lessons for each of them, as well as the distribution of grades for the various exams and hours for the written exam

Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmaceutical Sciences:

Based on the recommendation of the Council of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Ain Shams University grants a master's degree in science, a professional postgraduate diploma in pharmaceutical sciences in one of the following specializations, and the name of the diploma, the specialization and the scientific department to which it belongs is specified

Enrollment requirements for Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmaceutical Sciences:

The student must have a bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical sciences from a university in the Arab Republic of Egypt, or a bachelor's degree as shown below in one of the following diplomas

Clinical Pharmacy Diploma: It is permissible to study this diploma by accepting a bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences from one of the universities of the Arab Republic of Egypt, or an equivalent degree from another scientific institute recognized by the university, provided that he fulfills the qualifying courses determined by the Faculty Council.

Diploma in biochemical analysis:

It is permissible to study this diploma to accept those who have a bachelor's degree in medicine and surgery or a bachelor's degree in science in the field of specialization "Biochemistry".

Diploma in Biotechnology:

It is permissible to study this diploma to accept those who have a bachelor's degree in science in the field of microbiology or (microbiology-chemistry) from a university in the Arab Republic of Egypt, or an equivalent degree from another scientific institute recognized by the university.

Diploma in Microbiology, Diploma in Pharmacology, Diploma in Toxicology and Forensic Chemical Analysis:

Those who have a bachelor's degree in medicine (human, veterinary or dental) from one of the universities of the Arab Republic of Egypt may be admitted to study with these diplomas, or an equivalent degree from another scientific institute recognized by the university.

The student should be free to study

The student submits an application for enrollment to the Faculty after presenting it to the concerned Faculty council in September of each year

The Faculty Council, after taking the opinion of the department councils, determines the number of students who are accepted for each diploma

Conditions for obtaining a postgraduate diploma in pharmaceutical sciences:

(37) The student should study 24 (twenty-four) prescribed hours of courses determined by the relevant department and shown in tables from No. (23) to No.

The duration of the study is one calendar year, and the exam is held at the end of it. The second round exam is also held for students who failed in no more than two courses, on a date determined by the Faculty Council.

A student may not remain enrolled in a diploma for more than two years, except with an excuse accepted by the Faculty Council

Important note: The student is not authorized to sit for the exam unless his attendance rate is not less than 75%, and in case he is denied, he is allowed to repeat the exam in the course he was denied

Grades of success in courses and general grade:

Excellent 85% or more of the total marks

Very good from 75% to less than 85% of the total marks

Good from 65% to less than 75% of the total score

Acceptable from 60% to less than 65% of the total marks

Grades of failure in courses and general grade:

Weak from 30% to less than 60% of the total score

Very weak, less than 30% of the total score
