About the department

The department was established with the inception of the faculty in 1996 under the name (Al-Aqrabazin and Poisons), and in 1999 the name was modified to the name that is currently known, which is the Department of Medicines and Poisons.

The department teaches two sciences:

Pharmacology:

Pharmacology is concerned with studying the different types of drugs and studying the mechanisms of the effect of each drug and the reasons for its therapeutic uses, as well as side effects and potential interactions with other drugs. He is also interested in clinical pharmacology, studying the therapeutic applications of drugs, and how to choose the most appropriate ones in case they conflict with each other, or conflict with the functions of the body or the patient's pathological condition.

Toxicology:

It is a science that specializes in studying the harmful effects of drugs and chemicals, how poisoning occurs with these substances, ways of preventing and control of complications of poisoning, its symptoms, and how to treat and prevent it.

The department allows work in many research fields, as it provides laboratories equipped with modern equipment for various measurements. The teaching and research activity of the department extends to some faculties of pharmacy affiliated with Egyptian and Arab universities in various fields, and the research fields vary to include treatment of cirrhosis of the liver, chemotherapy, neuropharmacology, pharmacology for prostate and ovulation disorders, pharmacology for diabetes, circulatory insufficiency, and environmental toxicology.
